The Process Behind Every Plank
At Inflamed, each board goes through a meticulous, multi-step process to ensure lasting performance and visual impact.
Step 1: Wood Charring
Using the traditional Shou Sugi Ban technique, we carefully burn the surface of the timber to create a natural, carbon-rich barrier. This layer enhances resistance to weather, insects, and decay, while deepening the wood's visual character.
Step 2: Brushing
Once charred, the planks are brushed to remove loose soot and refine the texture. This step reveals the grain patterns hidden beneath the char, adding depth and a tactile, organic feel to the surface.
Step 3: Wood oil coating
To seal and enrich the wood, we apply high-quality natural oils. This final step intensifies the colour, protects the surface, and enhances the finish’s longevity—all while preserving the raw beauty of the grain.
