Shou Sugi Ban Technique
Shou Sugi Ban (焼杉板) aka Yakisugi is a centuries-old technique, which was originally founded by Japanese carpenters in the XVIIl century. In 1700 Japanese carpenters were charring "Japanese cedar" - known as "Sugi"- used for construction. Various houses' charred wood cladding and fences are built in Western Japan, where this technique was viral, due to its remarkable durability.
